The Law of Polarity and Psychic Phenomena

The Law of Polarity
According to Physics, the Law of Polarity states that according to Universal Law, everything has a polar opposite. The mathematician, Sir Isaac Newton ( 1643-1727) stated in the 3rd Law of Motion “for every action there is an equal or opposite reaction”, which speaks to the Law of Polarity. Forces are paired in opposites, and although there are evolving theories around this that challenge and defy this to be valid, it still rings true in many areas of life.
For human beings, the Law of Polarity is a principle that everything that exists has two poles. This includes all things, animate or inanimate, thoughts, feelings, and energies. Examples are good and evil, love and hate, darkness, and light. The North Pole and the South Pole maintains the electromagnetic energy that cycles the earth, and batteries have a positive and a negative side. There is dualism in all things. This dualism can be a source of conflict and pain, but it also generates energy that allows us to experience the richness of life and see the truth of our reality and receive deep lessons.
The Law of Polarity states that there is a dualistic nature in all things. Beginning with vibration, which requires polarity to express, the world is full of polar opposites in order to create contrast and come to a greater understanding of us and the very nature of reality. All things, in reality, take form in contrast to what it is not, or its Antipode. Then it may be perceived and communicated through language and other forms of expression.
In Ancient Chinese philosophy, yin and yang (lit. “dark-bright”, “negative-positive”) is a concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. Is it possible to experience pleasure and joy without pain? Is it possible to experience happiness without knowing sadness? Your answers will give you insight into the nature of the Law of Polarity, or the Law of Opposites, and how it weaves through your life. Some of the best creative work in art, literature, and music are based on the exploration and practice of finding a balance of a counterbalance of opposites.
All things that are created as a force, energy, and physical matter, both animate and inanimate are based on this polarity. There is a principle of ‘gender’, or engendered thought, which is not to be confused with human discussions of gender. That being positive/negative, Male/Female, Dark/Light, resonance/dissonance, and may other opposites. All opposites are poles of the same thing, a different side of the same coin so-to-speak, such that all truths perceived are only half-truths or partially true.
In understanding the Law of Polarity allows us to see that there are many pathways and interpretations of the same truths, and that there are various harmonies in the universe, that when we pan out and look at it with a wider lens, there is a grand picture to behold and many paths to understanding and interpreting what you see. Within every failure or a perceived ‘negative’ oppositional force, there is potential for success. It is up to us to identify and decide what side of this pole to experience.
Universal Laws
There are 7 Universal Laws or Principles on which the universe is governed. The universe maintains harmony through these laws. Ancient mystical, esoteric, and secret teachings that date back as far as 5.000 years ago. There may be 12, but 7 are very commonly discussed.
The laws originate from various sources and run through major world religions and philosophies. Across many ancient cultures from Atlantis, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and the Vedic traditions of Ancient India. When these laws are applied to a person’s life it can lead to massive transformation and discovery of immense personal creative power.
Of the 7 laws are the Immutable and mutable. Immutable Laws are absolute and cannot be changed or bypassed. Mutable Laws may be changeable and you may transcend and use to create a reality of your choosing.
The 7 Universal Laws
- The Law of Mentalism (Immutable)
- “Everything is mind, the universe is mental.”
- The Law of Correspondence (Immutable)
- “As above so below, so below, as above.”
- The Law of Vibration (Immutable)
- “Nothing rests, everything moves, and everything vibrates”.
- The Law of Polarity (Mutable)
- “Everything exists in duality, everything has poles, everything has its opposite, however opposites are identical in their nature and different only in degree.”
- The Law of Rhythm (Mutable)
- “Everything flows, everything has its tides, all things rise and fall, a pendulum that swings to the right swings to the left in equal measure, what goes up must come down, rhythm compensates.”
- The Law of Cause and Effect, or Karma (Mutable)
- “Every cause has an effect, every effect has its cause, and every action has its reaction.”
- The Law of Reflection or Relativity or The Law of Gender
- “Gender is in everything, everything has its masculine and feminine aspects.”
These 7 Universal Laws show us how the universe works out of its singularity and oneness. There is a dynamic the energy of our thoughts, energy, actions, and love that merge with this oneness. Each law is an aspect of the primal life force. The Laws are not easy to define in isolation, as they exist as a coherent whole. This is how the universe expands and contracts and becomes aware of itself.
Learning these laws and working with them can produce miracles, when we are out of alignment, they may produce disharmony, discomfort, or disease in the body. As we increase our awareness and use our psychic tools through readings and healings, it is possible to unlock this information and develop greater clarity and answers.
It is interesting to consider the 7 laws in relation to psychic development, most notably the Law of Polarity and how it impacts clairvoyant reading, and healing, awareness, and overall psycho-spiritual development.
Living in a World of Dichotomous Thinking.
We live in a world, now more than ever, that is full of dualistic or dichotomous thinking in the form of divisiveness in cultures, societies, communities, families, and even within the self. It is a great challenge to find harmony and balance in a world that demands that you take a side, state your claim, and self-identify.
It is not surprising that shadowy sides of society and the self are being brought to the surface with great intensity. It may appear that this binary thinking causes only toxicity or “us vs. them” syndrome, but when viewed from a different perspective and managed with care, it can be a wonderful opportunity for growth and understanding.
Divine Paradox, is the view that all opposites can and do exist in the same space and time. This is discussed in Chapter 6 of the Kybalion, a compilation of the Hermetic Teachings originally explained by Hermes Trismegistus. Time and space is a concept that exists in the human mind. In reality, everything exists in a singular moment of consciousness. In other words, all oppositional experiences, states, and thinking can be “both/and” the same.
The Law of Polarity and The Law of Attraction
The Law of Polarity is also connected to the concept of the Law of Attraction. In that, we attract what we focus our attention on. So to manifest a life we desire we may focus on our target as if it is already ours or part of us, rather than focusing on what we don’t have or making it different or ‘other than’ our vibration. This is discussed in many books including the classic Think and Grow Rich By Napoleon Hill. In the classic, he referred to this law in stating “Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.”
If you want to improve your experience of life, you may actively change it by changing the polarity of your experience to something that you desire. You may do this by thinking about what is lacking or you are struggling within your life and visualize it moving to the other end of the scale. It is more nuanced than simply thinking positive, but that easy to shift your mindset and therefore your energy into an energetic and magnetic space where you already are what you desire.

- If someone is overly confident, even arrogant, they may in actuality have a story that is related to their insecurities, fear, and anxiousness in life.
- If someone is experiencing challenging times in their life and is in pain or crisis, they may feel as if they are bringing it to them. If you apply the law of polarity, you may see this dualistic thinking, how their energy has become polarized, and the ways that they may break free from it.
- When a reader is appearing stuck or lacking in inspiration, whether it be a creative urge, business edge, or mother or student burnout, it is possible to look at this through the Law of Polarity. You may see how they have become stuck in an energetic pattern and ways for them to break free.
