Competition
“Comparison is the thief of joy” – Theodore Roosevelt
Competition is “The act or process of trying to get or win something.” We live in a world where competition is supported and accepted as a suitable response in many areas of life. In business, dating, sport, and many other areas, it is a common way of getting to the top and ensuring success. Social media fosters the need to put all aspects of a person’s life on display, often heavily sanitized and focused on creating the appearance of only success. Unlike cultures emphasizing sharing and interconnectedness, Western culture often values competition over collaboration and community. In many ways, it is seen as a sign of strength and even rewarded.
When developing awareness and clairvoyance and branching out into working with development groups, reading, and healing, there are many energies a person can encounter. The work of developing awareness and learning to manage energy is not reserved only for new-age spiritual groups. It benefits anyone to learn how to manage life, business, relationships, health, money, and more from an energetic perspective.
Competition in the context of psychic abilities is when a person comes up against or gets lit up over energies in another person’s space, a situation, or something else. It can be conscious or unconscious. Competition is related to scarcity or lack of mindset, which in clairvoyant circles is called non-havingness. A person with low havingness can affect healing, creating for yourself, and taking growth steps. It can be a block to your clarity as well.
Competition and Your Shadow
Competition has a shadow side. It can activate harmful behavior and cause resentment and destructive energy if not kept in check. The shadow side of competition is the notion of “survival of the fittest,” where there are limited resources, and therefore one must fight for their piece of the pie. It is based on a scarcity or lack mindset where it is believed that there are limited resources. If left unaddressed, it can lead to gossip, backstabbing, self-sabotage, or an attempt to sabotage others. It is helpful to acknowledge your shadow in a state of non-judgment and work with it to release the energy of competition.
This reaction is more of a statement to places where you may need to heal and a belief that you are not senior and powerless. It can also be a form of shielding or self-protection from people, situations, or energies you believe are more powerful than you. Competition is often more about where you do not feel in control or actualized in your life and less about the other person or situation.
Competition, when accompanied by jealousy, are energies that are disempowering. Jealousy is often more of a statement of where you are in your personal development, pointing toward an area you feel you lack, need, or want to create for yourself but haven’t. It is an invitation to go within and look at what lessons and healing can be taken.
Energetics of Competition
- Seeking ill-will towards another, that may have or represent something you want
- Not wanting to accept that another person is a teacher or energy worker
- Getting lit up when reading or healing someone because the themes are uncomfortable
- Being jealous of another person’s success in any area of life
- Being jealous of a person’s position, business, or overall success
- Trying to outdo or speak over other people because you “know better.”
- Assessing yourself against others and making comparisons
- Putting yourself down, playing the victim or martyr role
- Deliberately attempting to undermine or sabotage a person or group by throwing energy
- Actively trying to undermine another person’s space, business, relationships, or something else
Healthy Competition
There is such a thing as healthy competition that goes further than the typical discussion in sports or business. Having competition rise within you offers an opportunity to self-observe, identify areas that may need a hello, clarify what you want to create, or reinforce a need for a boundary. If recognized, managed, and cleared, the tension in these moments can provide great information and initiate growth and increased awareness. It can also inspire you to take the steps or changes you are avoiding.
Expressing Healthy Competition
Anything that lights you up and makes you feel lower-toned emotions clues where you may be stuck, what you may be missing, and what you genuinely desire to define or express yourself. What you see in another often reflects what you have not identified, processed, or realized within yourself. Healthy competition is when we use the energies and information surfacing to heal, learn and grow, move more into our power, and take actionable steps towards creating the life we truly desire.

A Psychic Perspective
Competition, among other picture energies, while uncomfortable and sometimes messy, are gifts to show you where you need to look to heal and make changes. Any energy, whether perceived as negative or positive, is a catalyst for growth and change. Taking a broader lens view of a situation is a rich opportunity to step up your awareness. Learning to express safely, release, heal and transmute these energies opens up a world of possibilities for creating the life your heart desires.
Meditation and clairvoyant tools to uncover and clear difficult and uncomfortable emotions can lead to sharper awareness. Feelings of competition, and jealousy, among others, are not to be ignored or denied in an attempt to appear perfect. They are an opportunity to learn more about yourself and others and help develop clairvoyance and psychic awareness. When channeled properly, competition, like any problematic energy, can be used for healing, growth, and creating for yourself.
You may observe competitive energy in family, friends, clients, or colleagues. If you are in a development circle for reading or healing, or even working solo in your practice or business, knowing how to identify and learn to work with this energy can be very helpful. And while a healthy dose of competition may be a spark that ignites healing, and growth, making things interesting, it can also be harmful.
If you notice that a person or group is using this in a way that is negatively affecting growth or being used to keep people in a holding pattern, dependent, disempowered, or in a low vibration, it may be time to look elsewhere. Arguably it is your responsibility to manage your energy. If you notice that competition is affecting your or others’ space, it may be time to work that energy and turn your attention inwards. We can’t entirely escape competition; it is unrealistic to think we need to. It is part of the spectrum of human experience and growth.
